ASSESSING THE STATUS QUO

The following section is a perception survey on the current state of the role and readiness of teachers in the context of teaching Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the AI era. With these questions, we would like to capture your thoughts on the topic.

Please note that the questions in this perception study and your inputs will be treated confidentially and not be considered for the selection of the ASEF ClassNet15 Conference participants. The results of the perception study will contribute to ASEF reports, be presented at ASEF ClassNet15 and shared with ASEFEdu Stakeholders and ASEM policymakers. The result will also be used to design the programme of the conference for a better learning experience of the participants.

Background Information

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to act together to ensure a more sustainable world for all nations. There are 17 SDGs that were adopted in 2015 by all member states of the United Nations (UN), and all the goals are targeted to achieve by 2030. The goals address global challenges that concern poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. To know more about SDGs please check: More Information on SDGs

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

According to UNESCO, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a key enabler for achieving SDGs. While there is no fixed definition of ESD, it is mainly referred to as the type of education that helps learners develop the knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, values, and skills required for building sustainable societies. To know more about ESD please check: More Information on ESD

Background Information

Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED)

The term “Artificial Intelligence (AI)” was introduced by cognitive scientist Professor John McCarthy in 1956. Although the term and concept have since then been in use for more than 60 years, there is no universally agreed definition of AI. According to Merriam-Webster, “Artificial Intelligence (AI)” is mainly defined as the capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behaviour. Some experts believe that AI has tremendous potential to profoundly change the way of teaching and learning.

To know more about AI please check: The History of Artificial Intelligence and The Definition of AI According to Merriam-Webster
